The Courage to Be Yourself, Vividly

I just finished reading "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the story of a Muslim woman's life growing up under the law of Islam, questioning these laws, and then choosing a different life.

What I loved about this book is watching this woman's mind gradually open and leave the cage in which she identified herself. WIth absolutely no idea how she could survive in the western world, still unclear about what she really believed, she followed a call to liberate her spirit and body from the rule of a culture that is all she really even knew.

Her journey demonstrates enormous courage and profound longing for a union with the truth of her very soul despite the loss of family and clan. I can't even imagine the fear and aloneness she must have felt at times. And then to take up the cause of the suffering of her sisters whose abuse and forced submission are being ignored by the "awakened" culture that has offered them asylum.

Please read this book to open your eyes to the world around you to better understand what is not so very far away but is happening right here in our midst. We must all open our eyes and know that our sisters can be liberated by our own clearer vision.

Love and Sisterhood,
Leela
